Nuevas experiencias CAS en 1º de Bachillerato Internacional: Mauro Pardo y su pasión por BMX

Hoy, en el blog de CAS (Creatividad, Actividad y Servicio) de nuestros alumnos de Bachillerato Internacional  Emma Garrido ha entrevistado a Mauro Pardo. 

As winter is nearing its end 1st IB students are chipping away at their CAS hours through various experiences. This month I have had the pleasure to interview a talented new student, Mauro Pardo,who, for his CAS project, has chosen to share his expertise in BMX. Throughout the interview he explained why he had chosen this as his project and what new insight he was gaining from being on the opposite side of his preferred sport.

Projects in this subject can take many forms and there are endless possibilities, so when interviewing him I made it a point to ask why he would choose something of this nature as his project, to which he answered “It’s a sport that I’ve been doing since I was young, which is now going to help me gain new perspective on BMX as well as helping me explore my options for the future as I am getting an idea of what being a BMX teacher is about”.

So far he’s been teaching one of his friends who’s quickly advancing thanks to his lessons and
support, however he’s going to keep teaching until his friend pleases, and he plans to continue to teach for the rest of his year. “The feeling of not only understanding a sport but also being able to pass it on is incredible,” Mauro said .

En segundo lugar, tenemos a Ainhara, quien trabajó como monitora en una fundación, diseñando juegos dinámicos y talleres sobre comprensión emocional. Su motivación fue muy personal: “Siempre me ha fascinado cómo ellos perciben el mundo y sus distintas perspectivas. Era un objetivo personal”.

Second, we have Ainara, who worked as a counselor at a foundation, designing dynamic games and workshops about emotional understanding. Her motivation was very personal: “I’ve always been fascinated by how they perceive the world and their unique perspectives. It was a personal goal.”

La experiencia la hizo más empática: “Entiendes que no todos vivimos la misma realidad. Ellos me demostraron que, aunque tengan capacidades diferentes, pueden lograr cosas extraordinarias, como una obra de teatro de sombras”. Aunque su proyecto terminó, Ainara planea continuar en la universidad: “Los niños eran adorables y encantadores. Esta experiencia reforzó mi deseo de seguir trabajando en inclusión”.

The experience made her more empathetic: “You understand that we don’t all experience the same reality. They showed me that even with different abilities, they can achieve extraordinary things, like a shadow theater play.” Although her project ended, Ainara plans to continue in university: “The children were lovely and delightful. This experience strengthened my desire to keep working in inclusion.”

Por un  lado Alicia demostró que la solidaridad no conoce fronteras, mientras que Ainara demostró que la verdadera inclusión comienza cuando miramos mas allá. Ambas llegaron a la misma conclusión: “Lo más valioso no fue lo que nosotras dimos, sino lo que recibimos a cambio: un sentido de propósito, conexiones auténticas y la firme convicción de que un mundo mejor es posible”.

On one hand Alicia proved that solidarity knows no borders, while Ainara showed that true inclusion begins when we see with our hearts. Both reached the same conclusion: “The most valuable part wasn’t what we gave, but what we received in return: a sense of purpose, authentic connections, and the firm belief that a better world is possible.”
