Nearing the end of October, IB students continue to share their meaningful CAS experiences they have taken part in during this past year. In this instance I have had the pleasure of interviewing Kenzo García Nakamura, and learning about his experience hiking the Ruta de las Torcas de Palancares as an Activity strand for CAS.

On August 18th, Kenzo undertook a hiking route located in the province of Cuenca, Spain. The activity consisted of completing the trail while observing the region’s natural environment and unique geological sinkhole formations. Throughout the trek, he was responsible for maintaining a steady pace, adhering to designated paths to protect the surrounding ecosystem, and managing the physical demands of the terrain.

The hike presented notable physical and mental obstacles, particularly when navigating steep inclines and managing physical fatigue. However, through this experience Kenzo was able to push his physical limits, developing greater endurance, stamina, and perseverance as he maintained effort throughout the route.

Ultimately, completing the Ruta de las Torcas de Palancares offered Kenzo more than just an improvement in physical fitness, as it not only fostered resilience and self-discipline, but also a deeper respect for protecting natural environments, understanding their importance and role.
