In the midst of October the IB students continue to share experiences they have taken part in this past year. I have had the honor of learning about more of my classmates’ experiences. In this case I was able to hear out Mario Aisa, and his experience of Rock Climbing as an activity for CAS, mixing fun with a learning opportunity.

During this activity he was able to attempt climbing a variety of walls at Climbat Zaragoza, the climbing gym where this experience took place, which each required a certain level of practice, adaptation and mental preparation.

Not only did this experience provide a physical improvement and a great source of exercise, but it also allowed for personal growth, as when confronted with fears such as the auto belay not working, Mario was able to work past them and has grown to trust himself even in experiences that are outside of his comfort zone.

The challenge that this experience previously represented is now an activity that can be taken up as a hobby, with skills that can be transferred to other activities and a perspective that can be shared with others that want to go rock climbing, opening a whole world of possibilities.
