Marco Sánchez and his CAS project centered around animal welfare
As the year progresses for the IB students, there is a continued flow of diverse and impactful CAS initiatives undertaken. In this case, I was able to learn more about 2 IB student Marco Sánchez CAS project centered around animal welfare.
Beginning in February and continuing throughout 2026 up until August, Marco worked alongside Sonrisa Animal, a dedicated non-profit organization in Utebo committed to caring for abandoned animals, holding the belief that no living being should even be without care, protection or opportunity.
Throughout this experience not only did he help organize events to raise public awareness, but he also took up the responsibility of caring for a local colony of abandoned cats weekly.
Because of this project, Marco was able to show people the hardships that street animals go through, help get them into safe and permanent homes and teach others about the long-term responsibilities of taking care of a pet.
Ultimately, what began as a practical service experience has allowed Marco to see the care and effort behind institutions such as Sonrisa Animal, and also develop his organizational skills, and ethical perspective, crucial for future clarity, decision making and being a well-rounded individual.
